This 90=minute workshop will give you the hands-on training to grow your own oyster mushrooms, Pleurotus ostreatus. Supplies are provided for a $5.00 fee at the class. You will be taught all the basic steps to get started, and then take home your mushroom growing bag. Just imagine, you will be able to enjoy eating your mushrooms in a favorite dish you prepare. The versitile oyster mushroom can be stir-fried, grilled, added to soups, pastas, rice dishes, or enjoyed as a side dish. You also can dry your mushrooms and save for later use. Your friends and family will be amazed!

Oyster mushrooms have a wide range of health benefits, according to mushroom culture experts:

  • They are an excellent source of protein, fiber, B vitamins (including niacin and riboflavin), as well as minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and folate;

  • Antioxident properties of oyster mushrooms help fight free radicals in the body;

  • Antimicrobial properties of oyster mushrooms help strengthen the immune system;

  • Oyster mushrooms contain beta-glucans, soluble fiber that can help lower LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels, regulate blood sugar levels, thereby reducing the rish of heart disease;

  • Oyster mushrooms contain polysaccharides, which have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects.
