Irene Carol Michaud passed peacefully to Heaven on Sunday, May 25, 2025, with her sister and niece by her side. Irene was born on January 7, 1949, to Peter and Helen Michaud in Manhattan, New York. Spending most of her childhood in Leonia, New Jersey, Irene graduated from Leonia High School where she could often be found twirling her baton as the Head Majorette. After college at Jersey City State, Irene fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher. She was a dedicated elementary school educator and administrator in the West Milford Public School system for 35 years. She also taught graduate students at Columbia Teachers College, equipping them to serve children with learning disabilities. Irene believed in her students’ ability to learn, and offered patient expertise to insure each student could enjoy the world of possibilities opened to them with the gift of reading.
Upon her retirement, our Jersey Girl became a Georgia Peach and quickly made dear friends through many Village of Deaton Creek clubs and activities: Garden Club, Day Trippers, Singles, Mahjong, Exercise Classes and Trivia were just a few of her favorites. Since Irene always loved trees, plants, flowers and gardening, becoming a Hall County Master Gardener was the perfect fit. She loved HCMG, serving as President (twice!) as well as volunteering for many committees, garden walks and expos.
